Unbreakable
I’ve just watched the film Unbreakable for the first time since it came out. I enjoyed it very much when I saw it at the cinema, but it was one of those movies I didn’t want to watch again in case my memory was spoiled. However, with The Hero Workshop in mind, I took the risk.
The story is of a listless man on the verge of losing his wife and son. This is a grey man in a grey world. In true hero’s journey style, he is alerted to a different world by a stranger. The grey man slowly realizes that he has powers that make him more than average. With this realization comes a sense of identity. He acknowledges that he is the hero in his story and starts acting that way. After saving a couple of children he returns home a confident man, ready to win back his family.
I think I should ask M. Night Shyamalan permission to use this movie as a recruiting tool for The Hero Workshop. It shows in a wonderful big screen way what I want the participants in the workshop to experience. When you identify yourself as the hero of your story and start acting like a hero, amazing things can happen in your life.
