When one listens to the news these days everyone is a hero. Hero’s are rare commodities, they are one in a million. Those who died at the world trade center were not hero’s they were victims, the true hero’s were those poor souls who attempted to save those who worked there. While in the army during Vietnam my first sargent told me only stupid people get killed or they make stupid mistakes which take their lives. With the propaganda coming out of Washington one would be led to believe that every death in Iraq is a heroic death, compare the medals of honor awarded so far in Iraq as compared to Vietnam, Korea, and WWII. The medal is given to those who sacrifice their lives or perform some deed that saves the lives of others. Getting blown away by a roadside bomb is not heroic it is stupid. The war is one based upon lies which have caused our volunteer army to sustain unnecessary loss of life, when I entered the army i was regular army, i asked to be there so I had not right to complain, these people asked to be there and the knew the risks associated with wearing the uniform. Heroic acts occur every day and almost everyone knows a real hero, someone who did something extraordinary in a dangerous situation which resulted in a positive outcome. There are real hero’s in this world but they are not in sports stadiums playing kids games and taking drugs, they exist in the common population and the hero gene is in everyone of us, but only few of us will ever be faced with a serious situation which cause us to arise to the level of a true hero.
