Starting A Hero’s Journey

2007 brings me fully into a new journey as I begin the Hero Workshop as a business. My mundane world has already been left behind. Camp was once a magical world for me, but over the last year or so there, it definitely became mundane. The call to adventure has been received and last week I crossed the threshold at Indian Woods. The path of trials begins.

So, what should I expect? I will meet some mentors. I’m not sure where they might come from at this point. Perhaps they’re teachers or principals. I already have one in George Brymer who was also part of my call to adventure. Maybe I’ll meet someone in the school presentations industry (is there such an industry?).

I know I’ll have a lot of friends to help me through. From my enormously supportive wife, to my very excited room mate, and all of the people who are part of the Hero Workshop Support Group. The commenters on this blog are a huge support – Mr. Leibrand being the most prolific. I expect to meet a lot of teachers through the year and there are certainly friends among them already. There will be foes too. People who shoot me down, telling me no-one will be interested. One of those foes lives inside my head, which seems hardly fair.

I expect to have some challenges. Not every class will be as friendly as Indian Woods. How will I cope with a class that doesn’t respond or behaves poorly? Many school administrators won’t be interested in hearing what I have to say. I’ll have plenty of rejections to deal with.

I know there will be dark moments, but I also know there will be plenty of great times. I can look to my heroes during the tough times and share my story when it’s enjoyable. I’ll be doing all that on this blog – I’ll see you there.
