Burt Munro and the World’s Fastest Indian
If you don’t put an effort into anything you might as well be a vegetable.
Burt Munro said a lot of smart things. This is just one of them.
I’ve just watched Roger Donaldson’s movie, The World’s Fastest Indian, about Burt Munro. The Indian in question is a motorbike, not the man. The man had a one-tracked mind – he wanted to make his bike go faster. It brought him great happiness and it’s truly a wonderful thing to see. I saw a completely different film on the weekend, Knocked Up, and one character talked about how adults never achieve the level of happiness that children do. Some kids were chasing bubbles and loving it. I think Burt Munro came close to achieving that with his motorbike. When one thing can provide such happiness without destroying the rest of your life, you might be able to achieve a level of “bubbles”. Can you think of anyone else who has been able to dedicate their life to one thing without sacrificing the rest of their life? Someone who has found “bubbles”?
