Pink For October
The Hero Workshop is going to be pink for the rest of month in conjunction with the Pink For October program that is raising awareness and support for breast cancer. It is also in recognition for the work of Nora Kessel who among other things, gave birth to Steve – my partner in crime with the Hero Workshop. He’s the one creating the Young Heroes League and the kindergarten program. This is what he had to say about his hero.
Superman is my favorite superhero. Why? Because he has all those amazing powers, and he still chooses to be good. He still chooses to be selfless, but he doesn’t have to.
And that is why my mom, Nora Kessel, is my favorite hero. She chooses day in and day out to be as selfless as selfless can be. I will never meet anyone like her, ever. Even when she’s tired and sick she puts in her all.
My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer almost two years ago. Throughout her surgeries, pain, etc., she was never bitter. She never blamed anyone or anything and kept the same positive attitude that greatly influences everyone around her.
She is an inspiration to everyone. Just a week ago, she oversaw an amazingly successful Relay For Life in Hartland, Michigan. She helped double the amount of money raised from the previous year to a staggering $90,000+.
My mom isn’t a hero because she can leap tall buildings or is faster than a speeding bullet. My mom is a hero because she chooses to be a hero, every second of every day. She has never and will never give up.

I am so glad to see another blogger participating in the Breast Cancer Awareness month!
Besides going pink, I will also try to create and spread the awareness on breast cancer throughout the month, such as this post about some breast cancer-related statistics:

I have only had a couple of privileged encounters with Steve’s mom. I heard her story at an assembly that we had in High School and it was truly inspirational. Not only is she an amazing testimony of a true hero but within her choices of being selfless throughout her life she created amazing kids who are just like her. I graduated with Jo who is a great person and worked with Steve, just as amazing. It shows that if you try to be an inspiring, selfless person than you can truly change the world for many people.
Hey, Nora Kessel is one of my hero’s too. She has been for 47 yrs, and Steven you are on that hero list, a good kid who has turned into a wonderful young man, keep up the good work and God bless you both. Love, Aunt Patty Jo
What a beautiful letter Steve! You are right! Your mother has been extremely courageous and loved and trusted God through many hideous difficulties. That’s what a real hero is!!!
Love ya, Aunt Katie
Amen to that!
She turned a difficult obstacle into an opportunity to help others.
That’s the true meaning of a hero.
Love to all the Kessels!

Steve, I just love you! You are right, your Mom is my hero too…she has always worked tirelessly to be a Child of God…to get herself back to Him in as pure a way as He sent her here…and she is doing a mighty fine job of it…and bringing along others with her!
Love,
Aunt Mary
