Celebrate American Heroes Day

franklin.jpgShawnee Mission School District held their annual Celebrate American Heroes day a week ago.  A child from each school (including Overland Park where I presented the Hero Workshop in November) chose a hero to present at the assembly.  2,000 fifth graders were there to see 5th grade versions of Benjamin Franklin, Lucille Ball, Paul Newman, John F. Kennedy, and many more.

What a great tradition to have for a school district.  Not only does it act as a tribute to some important heroes, but it provides a way for students to research their own heroes and learn about many more.  The more heroes we know about, the more material we have to use in our own journeys.

If you had been part of this in fifth grade, who would you have been representing?
