Women’s History Heroes #19 – Dolores Huerta

2008 March 25

Karen has submitted today’s hero, Dolores Huerta.  She’s a hero of education so it’s appropriate.  Huerta fought for the rights of immigrant farmers to allow the children she taught better opportunities.  She saw her students coming to school with barely enough clothes and often coping without meals.  It became obvious to her that the only way to solve the problem was to tackle it at the source.

She has campaigned for many years, been arrested countless times, and been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.  You can read her story by clicking here.
