HeroCamp Is On
We’re half way through HeroCamp and some exciting stuff is on the cards for tomorrow. The design begins tomorrow and the ideas that were thrown around in the last half an hour of today have me eager to get going.
We started today at Breakfast Klub, a Houston institution, and I had the waffle and wings. Yes, chicken wings for breakfast. Apparently it’s normal. There are photos of the breakfast and whole experience on Flickr in the HeroCamp pool.
We had a number of presentations today, including mine. One of those was from the ladies at SunNight Solar who produce solar flashlights to help the billions of people around the world without access to articifial lighting. What they’re doing is world changing and it’s easy for you to help. Simply buy one of these cool (and useful) flashlights and tell them which charity you’d like them to send a second flashlight to. Christmas is coming and I know you know someone who would love one of these.
Nate Ritter is here and demonstrated without meaning to (heroes are humble) that he is a hero. You can read what he did here. Basically he stopped his life for three days to help others during the San Diego wildfires with no intent of reward. So he conciously chose to do good, made a personal sacrifice, and had his focus on others. There’s our definition of a hero. Nate is now trying to automate the service he provided for future crises at CrisisWire. You can help him by voting for his project at Ideablob where he can be given $10,000 to put the project into motion.
I will aim to update again after tomorrow to talk about where we’re heading. One last thing – I have rejoined the Twitter-verse as everyone in the room Twitter their hearts out all day. You can follow me there under the name theheroworkshop. I aim to use the service primarily to publicize the everyday heroes. Every day.
