Lots ‘o Links

2008 November 23

I have a number of things to share before heading into a fairly busy pre-Thanksgiving week.  I’ve been doing a lot of this kind of linking on Twitter, so if you’d like to read hero-related stories every day or so, follow me on Twitter by clicking here.  And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, watch the video at the bottom of the post.

The first link is about bullying in the playground, titled “Playground Heroes”.  It’s an article from the Greater Good magazine that is a few years old – so unfortunately the video link is dead.  There’s a lot of great information for kids, educators, and parents.

The second comes from Readers Digest who are holding their own Hero Of The Year.  Where CNN’s competition focuses on people working to improve the lives of others, this set of heroes are more action oriented.  These are heroes who saw an immediate need and acted.

The third (and final) is zyOzy.org.  I met Steve Jennings through Twitter (meeting people is another reason for you to join) and he’s doing some amazing things.  zyOzy is a new way of thinking that is going to change the world – focusing on the Millenium Development Goals.  Keep your eyes on him and zyOzy.

Hi Matt, First, I need to say “THANK YOU” for the kind words and reference to zyOzy Foundation in the BLOG post. The Hero Workshop reaches out and touches people in a very special way. There are many, many ways to leverage this new genre of ‘micro-blogging/massaging’. Twitter is a wonderful demonstration of the sheer power of conversation when it is glued together by the ’social-web’. What WE are PARTICIPATING in is a ‘media/longtail/narrowcast’ revolution. The HERO’S of tomorrow will figure out new and ‘game-changing’ ways to leverage the technology. zyOzy is a 501(c)3 not for profit, grant-giving organization that uses emerging social-networking technology to activate youth in a global fight against extreme poverty in Africa and India.
